电视明星宇野久美子因爱上同僚却失恋，决心自杀。在演艺事业上也陷入困境的她，觉得伊豆那片不会结冰的湖是个理想的自杀地点。她在前往大阪的车上乔装成业余画家，抵达了伊豆。被雨淋湿的她，被一位上了年纪的绅士开车带到了自己的旅馆。一夜过后，这位大池氏不见了踪影，岸边只漂着一艘小船。对岸别墅的管理员石仓告知大池氏死亡的消息，随后警察也到了。据说银行家大池氏因放出去的高利贷无法收回而自杀，遗书中还暗示与某女性一同赴死，久美子自然成了被怀疑的对象。大池的妻子和长子也赶到了。长子隆一直跟着久美子，还把在柴房找到的久美子常用的催眠药普罗米迪亚交给了她。第二天早上，为打捞尸体船被划了出去，不知被谁弄翻，久美子落入湖中。在差点窒息时被救起的久美子，此时被大家认为是追随大池氏去殉情……
